Noella Joy Turns One!

February 25, 2011

I’m totally on a blogging kick these days. I feel like there’s so much going on, I need to blog about it before it gets forgotten & left behind!

My sweet Amanda’s baby girl turned ONE this month! It is so crazy that she is already one — I still remember meeting her just a week after she was born! Now she is full-on walking, eating grown-up foods, and signing “please” to everyone & everything. I love her cheese face & the way she bounces her head up & down when she wants to hear music taha. I’ll only post a handful of pictures so Amanda can post the rest on her blog or FB, but just wanted to share a few of my favorite photobooth pics!

Happy birthday, little n! :)

#12: Drive Down PCH.

February 24, 2011

Okiedokes, here goes!

We started our trip on a Wednesday and drove straight up the 5 to my parents’ house for the night. I was excited to see them, as well as my precious Teddy ;), since it’s the last time I’ll see them before the baby comes. (Side note: I am so curious to see how Teddy will react to the baby when we go home for the holidays this year! He is such a jealous dog, but I am always amazed at how well animals tend to interact with babies. We shall see…) The best part about being home was having my mom feel the baby move — she probably hasn’t felt that since she was last pregnant over 25 years ago (!) — so it was super sweet for both of us.

The next morning we drove down to Monterey. Walked around Cannery Row, ate a yummy cinnamon roll, took pictures by the bay, and explored the aquarium.

(Steven is very proud of this picture — he thinks it’s very Sartorialist-esque haha)

Afterwards, we drove to Carmel-by-the-Sea for a late brunch at From Scratch, which came highly recommended by Jimmy & Sharon. :) I loved the drive from Carmel to Big Sur to SLO — the ocean was seriously gorgeous. We lucked out with amazing weather (it rained the week after we got back home) & made a couple stops on the road to take some scenic photos.

Drove to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, but skipped out on the hike tahaha. The shortest route they recommended was over an hour, and we thought we’d be too pooped. Correction: I thought I’d be too pooped. So we cheated and walked a few minutes into the woods to rest & enjoy our natural surroundings. The light was awesome here — some of my fave pictures from our trip!

Then we made our way down to SLO & checked into my fave B&B ever!!! It’s called the Sanitarium and is a frat-house-turned-b&b. The decor was perfectly vintage/artsy, the breakfast was delicious, and the location was convenient. The only thing I didn’t love was the cat they had roaming around the house, but we later learned that the owners rescued it from the streets & from a nasty eye infection, so I felt bad for hating on him.

At night we walked a few blocks north to go to their farmer’s market. It’s supposedly one of the best in California & is unique because it runs at night rather than the morning. It was Steven’s first time at a farmer’s market & we had a lot of fun roaming around the streets, checking out all the food vendors & sampling local produce. We even bought a little jar of organic apple butter! So fun :)

The next morning we took off after a yummy homemade meal, stopping at Sally Loo’s for a breakfast scone & vegan muffin to go.

We drove down to Pismo Beach & walked around for a bit. Then went down to the beach to people-watch & get some sun. We commented on how weird it is that we always live so close to the beach but never go (case in point: San Diego & Laguna Beach).

Stopped in Solvang for a quick lunch & walked around to some boutiques. But didn’t stay long cause we were pretty tired & wanted to get down to Santa Barbara so we could rest. We checked into our B&B, Bath Street Inn, just in time for afternoon tea & dessert. Then spent the rest of the evening walking around State Street & doing what we do best: shopping! I ended up buying a pair of maternity leggings & I am in love! Also found some cute baby clothes at a little consignment store — wish that store was in OC :(

Spent the next morning roaming State Street again & grabbed lunch at La Super-Rica Taqueria. I loved that the tortillas were made from scratch, but Steven still prefers the Mexican food in San Diego ;)

Hit up the outlets in Oxnard, then drove down the coast to Santa Monica. I really wanted to take pictures at the Viceroy Hotel after I saw Jeff & Michelle’s engagement photos, and though ours didn’t come out as cute as theirs, I still loved walking around just to see the unique decor.

Then we checked into the Custom Hotel near LAX. I loved that it was affordable but still modern/unique. Also enjoy the city view from our room.

We ate dinner & dessert on Abbott Kinney & picked up a box of macarons from Jin Patisserie. I made Steven rush there so we could make it before they closed, and it was so worth it! I’m totally inspired & am going to try making macarons this week (I’ll blog about it if it’s not a complete disaster…)

The next morning we grabbed brunch at Elements Kitchen in Pasadena, which was my favorite place to eat from the whole trip! (Thanks for the rec, Connie & Hyo!) We got there before it got packed & ate outdoors. I ordered the ebelskivers (which were soooooo delicious, I cannot even describe) & Steven got the duck & sausage breakfast burrito. We know that they’re known for their lobster mac & cheese, but I just couldn’t bring myself to drop $22 for mac & cheese! Maybe next time ;)

Lastly, we spent a good four hours scrounging around the Rose Bowl Flea Market. Best find of the day? A framed vintage map of the US that we hung right above our crib! I didn’t take any pictures though, cause it was dang hot & I knew I’d be exhausted after an hour of walking around there. But pictures of the nursery to come soon :)

Phew, and that wraps up our little road trip. It was so tiring & we ate way too much, but it was fun spending time with my favorite person in the whole world! <3 Till next time…

#25: Get Glasses!

February 22, 2011

Last June we made a list of 25 things we wanted to accomplish by the time our second anniversary rolled around. Some silly, some ambitious. I glanced over the list about a month ago & was bummed to see that we’d only checked off maybe 5 things. There are some we definitely will not be able to accomplish by June (like going camping & taking a woodworking class), but a few that I’m determined to check off before the baby comes.

One of our silly goals was to get glasses. Steven & I both looooove glasses, but unfortunately (or fortunately, I suppose), neither of us has poor vision. One of the first dates I remember going on was going to the mall & trying on tons of glasses at Lens Crafters. It was uber fun :) So we finally made an appointment with the Kosturas & got our very own glasses!

We love them! I feel so much geekier/cooler. I think Steven looks smarter/hipper bahaha.

I’ll try blogging about our goals as we check them off. Driving down PCH was actually on our list of 25, so I’ll post about that next (still haven’t edited photos)! Until next time…

love, me.

Love Day.

February 15, 2011

We got back from our little road trip on Sunday night and needed a day to recover, so we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day tonight. Took this photo first thing when we woke up in our quaint little B&B in SLO on Friday morning. Still working through editing all the photos, but I’ll post about our trip soon.

To my fantastic husband… I love you, I love you, I love you! You are the sweetest & I will never tire of waking up next to you each morning & going to bed with you each night. Can’t imagine my life without you. <3

Tim & Juliana.

February 1, 2011

Confession: I finally finished editing all of Tim & Juliana’s photos. I know. It’s been almost a year. I’m not going to blog about the whole wedding, but I did want to post a few of my favorites from the engagement session we had for them in San Juan Capistrano. Portrait sessions are my fave type of photo request, so I had a lot of fun shooting these two lovebirds!
