This week I’ve started to feel the pressure again. It’s true that wedding planning is like a rollercoaster–there are times when it seems like there’s too much to juggle and other times when it seems like we’re cruising and have overcome all the big hurdles. I was telling Steven that I kind of like how all of our weekends are pretty much booked until the wedding. It makes the time go faster, and I like that we’re accomplishing things every weekend. However, I am left with very little time for all the manual labor I have set up for myself. Eep. Here is an incomplete list of things I have to do that are on my mind. Right. Now. Just to get a glimpse…

-Buy Steven’s suit/alterations
-Buy Steven new dress shoes (shinier?)

-Choose first dance song–live performance?
-Plan games (e.g. marrieds kissing)

-Remind Becky/DAhn about 5 min toasts
-Choose music for ceremony (prelude, candle lighting, processional, bridal processional, hymn, honoring parents, recessional)

-Figure out printing/cutting with Theresa Pyle
-Check material of aisle runner–talk to Mary Ann
-Plan schedule of wedding rehearsal/rehearsal dinner–make guest lists
-Borrow Sarah’s dress for b-shower
-Find/borrow dress for rehearsal dinner?–ask mom
-Figure out name cards (alphabet lists, individual name cards?)
-Make table numbers (fabric-sewn? scrapbook paper glued?)
-Choose which veil to use (or have Rose cut Tiff’s)
-Buy plane tickets to fly up north after honeymoon

…and the list goes on. Busyness is tricky business. Ho ho, no pun intended. But really, it’s one of those things that can sneakily divert your focus away from Christ and the gospel and the purpose of LIFE. It’s hard to hold onto things loosely with all this planning, but it sure is a humbling challenge. And a taste of the busyness that we will undoubtedly face in the coming years, as we have to juggle different responsibilities and roles. Lord help us.

Sneak Peek.

We took our real engagement photos two weeks ago with Ryel J Hendrickson. She’s a super sweet & stylish photographer, who is incredibly easy to talk to and made us feel comfortable from day one. I think that’s what drew me to her… I loved that I could be myself around her and laugh like I normally laugh–loud and with my head tilted back! :] At any rate, I had my doubts about my decision to go with her, just like I have had with basically everything in this whole wedding planning process. (It’s crazy how one person’s off-hand comment can turn my world upside-down. Just goes to show how much I care about what people think.) But we got our preview today, and I am very happy. It is exactly what I wanted–cute, artsy, vintage-y, natural, and HAPPY.

Here’s one of the ones I love the most:

Because He Loves Me.

We started reading this book for small group, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite books… hopefully one that I will continue to reference and read over and over in the coming years. God has been so kind lately to remind me of the sweetness of the gospel… there is such hope and joy and freedom in the finished work of Christ. How foolish to walk through life weighed down by feelings of despair, discouragement, and inadequacy when He has suffered and sacrificed much to liberate us from those very things. My heart is so full.

Elyse Fitzpatrick gave pages and pages of verses that walk through Jesus’ life. Prophecies about him from the OT, what would be accomplished, his virgin birth, the days leading up to the crucifixion, the failures of his disciples, the people who mocked him and spat on him, the wrath of God poured out on him, his painful death on a cross, and the glory of his resurrection. And the promises laid out in Scripture… because of these things. I’ve decided to meditate on each of these short verses/passages every day, so that the gospel will be fresh to me, so that I might be reminded of what the gospel means for me in my day-to-day pursuit of holiness.

Today was Ephesians 1:3-6. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

I want to experience the freedom that comes from truly believing the gospel. This is it for me… there is nothing else I need. This is the answer to all things, the cure for my despair, the hope that leads me onward, the strength I need to fight, and the sanctuary in which I find rest for my soul.
